Les réalisations de C.H. Eckhart pour la Fondation Van Cappellen à Capelle-sur-l'Yssel

The works of C.H. Eckhart for the Van Cappellen Foundation in Capelle aan den IJssel

This booklet is the fourth in a series devoted to the work carried out in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries by the Rotterdam steam factory of gilded and polychromed mirror frames, furniture and decorations for the interior and exterior of buildings, with the application of painting and sculpture, trade in mirrors, laminated glass and French mirrors, upholstery fabrics, etc. etc. C.H. Eckhart.

Each booklet is dedicated to a specific location to which the C.H. Eckhart furniture factory contributed in one or more of its specialties: design and/or production and/or installation of mirrors, furniture, wall, fireplace and ceiling woodwork, curtains, carpets, tablecloths, hanging and closing fittings, chandeliers, that is to say everything which, together or separately, contributes to the decoration of an interior.

This booklet deals with the contribution of the C.H. Eckhart factory to the furnishing of the Van Cappellen Foundation. C.H. Eckhart upholstered and furnished the Regents' Room in 1898.

The exceptional authenticity of the Regents' Room, which has undergone almost no alterations over the years, makes it truly unique. It exemplifies the layout and furnishings typical of Old Dutch Renaissance-style meeting rooms, a style popular in the Netherlands in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The Van Cappellen Foundation's Regents' Room offers an extraordinarily complete example, where everything has been preserved, from the parquet flooring to the curtains, from the wainscoting to the Japanese leather-paper.
